In early 2014 SRG Global was nominated as the preferred head contractor to refurbish the Endeans Apartment Building located in the heart of Auckland’s central business district. This heritage building was completed in 1915 and is said to be the first concrete encased steel frame building in New Zealand.
The original construction drawings indicated there were five floors initially, with a sixth floor added in the 1960s and finally a 7th floor in the early 1990s.
The scope to remediate the building consisted of:
Our team were faced with the challenge of working on a highly trafficked public pedestrian area adjacent to the central city bus terminus, which required a robust traffic management plan to be developed and strictly followed on site.
In addition, the team were required to complete the work while the building remained fully occupied, so considerable effort was made to minimise the impact of the works on residents over the course of the project.
